Competitive Debate

Develop Speaking Skills

Pacific Forensics (speech and debate) is offering a Debate Camp where students will learn about competitive debate while becoming more well-rounded in relevant and important topics such as race, climate, privacy and the role of government. Research shows that younger generations are more politically aware of and involved in these topics—and many more—than previous generations. And yet, with growing awareness also comes growing divide, which is why skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and oral and written communication are the most important skills for future students.

Curriculum

Competitive, interscholastic debate offers a unique learning opportunity for students to delve deeper into matters of public interest while developing critical skills. Debaters learn superior research techniques and strategies and are taught how to assess, connect with and persuade an audience. These skills are important outside of debates as well, as the ability to think quickly and critically is essential to every student’s future academic endeavors. In essence, debate builds the skills necessary to be an engaged citizen.
