Professor Myrlys Stockdale Coleman teaches Community Property. She serves as a Commissioner for Sacramento Superior Court in a general family law assignment. As a judicial officer, Stockdale Coleman has presided over matters related to family law, juvenile justice, child welfare, restraining orders, traffic, small claims and truancy. Prior to her appointment to the bench in 2019, she served as the Assistant Chief Counsel for the Department of Consumer Affairs, and as a Special Assistant Inspector General for the Office of the Inspector General.

From 2003 to 2015, she was the Managing Attorney of the Stockdale Law Firm, Inc. of El Dorado Hills, a boutique law firm specializing in family law. Stockdale Coleman served as court-appointed Minor’s Counsel, court-approved Special Master, Mediator, and as a Collaborative Divorce practitioner and member of the Sacramento Collaborative Practice Group. She also served as a Temporary Judge in family law and small claims matters in both the Superior Courts of Sacramento and Contra Costa Counties. Stockdale Coleman is a Certified Family Law Specialist, certified by the State Bar of California’s Board of Legal Specialization.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Stockdale Coleman worked as a public affairs director and a newspaper reporter. She who worked during the day and attended law school in the evening before her admission to the Bar in 2002.
